The Power Shift

Extreme-sports influencer Lorelei McCall married General Lowell Walker for an alliance, cut her hair, deleted her accounts, and became a proper Washington wife. For five years she was scenery and logistics; son Leo preferred family friend Claire and once wished his parents would divorce so Claire could be Mom. Lorelei signed divorce papers, waived custody and assets—then walked in on Lowell celebrating Claire’s birthday. When the decree finalized, she left for Nepal and opened an adventure school under her own name. Six years later Lowell’s highland training crossed her path. He tried to explain and win her back; Claire staged a kidnapping for attention and was expelled. Lorelei kept her distance even when handling Leo’s school fights in the U.S. At a UNESCO ceremony she accepted a medal—and handed Lowell an application to be a special instructor. This time the rules were hers.
