Under the Knife
My junior brother asked for my help as only I could treat a critical patient, so I agreed to perform surgery. After arriving at the hospital, the patient's family begged me, and I promised to cure them. The surgery was successful, and I received the surgical fee and left. A month later, I agreed to help the patient with a second surgery as promised. However, the patient later reported me for demanding an additional fee and presented a video as evidence. I was dismissed and investigated. I insisted that the fee was reasonable. The hospital held a press conference to defend the legitimacy of the surgical fee, with several doctors speaking in my favor. But the patient caused a scene, stirring public opinion and humiliating me. My junior brother arrived and informed me that the patient still required the second surgery. The patient refused to believe it, and the hospital had no choice but to demote me to ease public criticism. After my demotion, the patient even came to my house, causing a disturbance and smashing things. Yet, I was confident the truth would eventually come out. Eventually, the patient fell ill again. The patient's family, who had once passionately accused me, knelt down and begged me to treat them. They promised a red envelope and not to report me, but I refused, as I had been demoted to a regular doctor and was not qualified to perform surgeries. The truth was finally revealed, and my position was restored. Everyone apologized to me. I appeared on a show where the host said the bad patient had gone abroad for treatment and asked me if I would have treated them if no doctors abroad were available. I answered, "Yes. On the operating table, it's just the patient and the doctor, with no personal grudges. I have let it go."
