Echoes of the Cursed Woods
The story follows young Qiang Sheng, whose father is injured by a mysterious beast while hunting in the mountains. Soon after, livestock in the village are attacked, and even the village chief falls victim, spreading panic with rumors of a ""monster in the hills."" Qiang Sheng and his sister Xiu Ying venture deep into the forest to investigate, repeatedly encountering the enigmatic beast and its pack of wolves. Yet they notice strange behavior—the beast harms but never kills, as if deliberately driving humans away. Clues like green blood and animal hide fragments lead Qiang Sheng to suspect this is no ordinary creature but one controlled by someone. After tracking and ambushing the beast, they unmask it—revealing Feng Lin, the son of a hunter presumed dead three years prior. Feng Lin explains that his father, who died after killing a mother wolf protecting her cubs, repented on his deathbed, urging him to ""never hunt again."" To protect the mountains and stop villagers from overhunting, Feng Lin disguised himself as a beast, using fear to deter them while coexisting with the wolves. When the truth comes to light, Qiang Sheng supports Feng Lin’s mission. They convince the village chief to establish hunting restrictions. Feng Lin emerges as the forest’s guardian, and the story ends at dawn with him standing alongside the wolves—a symbol of harmony between humans and nature. Through suspense and twists, the tale blends rural mystique with a profound message about ecological balance and respect for life.
