The Second Heartbeat
"In Yuncheng, Ji Yansi, the eldest daughter of the wealthy Ji family, and Jiang Ziqian, the adopted son of the Jiang family, meet by chance during a business trip. Yansi has long endured the abuse of her stepmother, Shen Li, while Ziqian is tired of being treated like a slave by his adoptive father, Jiang Hong. To impress each other, they both pretend to be wealthy heirs—Yansi claims to be her half-sister, the renowned Ji Yao of the Ji family, while Ziqian poses as his adoptive brother, Jiang Yu. Both scheming, they feign drunkenness and spend the night together at a hotel. Back in Yuncheng, they return to their oppressive lives, despised by their adoptive parents. Both vow to rise above their circumstances, gain status, and escape their miserable environments. Believing they’ve each connected with a wealthy heir, their illusions shatter when Ziqian, escorting Jiang Yu to a blind date, discovers that the woman Yu is meeting is the real Ji Yao. To complicate matters, Yao falls for Ziqian at first sight, while Yu becomes infatuated with Yansi. The four become entangled in a web of deceit and romantic games. Ziqian intends to confess the truth to Yansi, but a birthday banquet delays him. Yansi still believes the man she spent the night with is Jiang Yu. At the banquet, the four reunite, and Yansi learns Ziqian had impersonated Yu—though she, too, had lied. Temporarily setting aside their grievances, they endure the event. Afterward, Ziqian and Yansi come clean, laughing at each other’s deception. Ziqian warns Yansi about the Jiang family’s corruption, but she refuses to believe him, vowing to become the young mistress of the Jiang family. As their romantic entanglements escalate, a sudden tragedy shatters everything. A year later, Yansi and Ziqian meet again, this time embracing their true identities—and finally finding love."
