Jax, a lowly laborer, and Seraphina, a noblewoman fleeing an arranged marriage, were brought together by fate and fled for their lives. They took refuge among ancient ruins, where he revealed the slave brand on his back and spoke of how his parents were burned alive, and Seraphina realized with horror that Lord Malcor, her own guardian, had been the one who slaughtered Jax's family.
