After three years away, Sophia Corleone returns to the family estate and finds that Mike, the Don she spent years shaping and protecting, has fallen under the influence of Lina, a ruthless woman from Chicago. Lina mocks Sophia, pushes Mike to abandon the sedatives that keep his dangerous manic episodes under control, and tries to take Sophia’s place in both the household and the family. When Mike chooses Lina’s methods over Sophia’s, Sophia leaves, and his condition quickly collapses.
