The Poor Man’s Apartment
The Poor Man’s Apartment follows Qin Yue and Bai Hao, a young couple struggling financially. They buy Apartment 407, a rumored haunted house, for an unbelievably low price of 100,000. Weird incidents start the very night they move in: endless stairs that trap them in loops, a mysterious woman sitting silently on the sofa late at night, and terrifying visions of burial robes. Everything seems to confirm the curse of the haunted unit — the previous tenant died tragically, and every resident never survives longer than seven days. Fueled by the seemingly kind reminders and hidden manipulation of their neighbor Chen Jia, the terrified couple tries all kinds of ghost-repelling methods with little success. As the seventh-day death deadline looms, they resolve to fight back and set a trap for the “evil spirit”. During the thrilling confrontation, they accidentally uncover the truth: the so-called female and male ghosts are nothing but people in disguise. The mastermind behind all of this is Chen Jia, the neighbor who kept offering hints and pretending to be helpful. Chen Jia is a relative of the deceased former tenant (or the victim herself using another identity). Taking advantage of the haunted house rumors, she orchestrates all the paranormal pranks and plots to eliminate residents. Her goal is to scare or kill every new occupant, drive property prices down continuously, and seize the apartment at an extremely low cost. After seeing through her scheme, Qin Yue and Bai Hao turn her trap against her. They expose Chen Jia’s murderous crimes and lure the police to arrest her. Just when the couple thinks the nightmare is over, the apartment door slams shut for no reason. A cold chill lingers, hinting that genuine secrets of this apartment remain undiscovered. Blending suspense and dark humor, the story explores how extreme desire distorts human nature, as well as the wisdom and courage ordinary people can muster in desperate situations.
