The Job of a Concubine
The New Emperor is disfigured in an assassination attempt. To uncover the true mastermind behind the attack, he disguises himself as a bodyguard and infiltrates the harem, becoming the personal attendant of his favored concubine, Consort Lisa, also known as Jennie. On the surface, Consort Lisa appears arrogant and illiterate, but in truth, she is both wise and brave, concealing her talents. During his time in hiding, Emperor discovers that she not only knows how to protect herself in the treacherous harem but also uses her kindness and intelligence to help him uncover plots against him, gradually changing his perception of her. Meanwhile, power struggles brew in the harem. The Empress and Concubine Joy both set out to suppress Consort Lisa. The Empress seems virtuous but is actually deeply scheming, while Concubine Joy, in alliance with the false emperor, aims to seize power through palace intrigue. Consort Lisa must deal with their schemes while also becoming a target due to her distinguished family background. She faces numerous assassination attempts and even has to drink an abortion potion, yet with the help of loyal servants, she manages to escape danger time and again. At a critical moment in the power struggle, Consort Lisa exposes the conspiracy between Concubine Joy and the false emperor, helping Emperor restore his appearance and identity. Ultimately, Emperor regains control of the throne, purges the harem, and deposes both the Empress and Concubine Joy. Consort Lisa, through her loyalty and wisdom, earns his trust and affection, becoming the true winner in the harem.
