The Fake Death Exposed by Subtitles
Shen Qian and Zhou Mingchen had been married for ten years, starting from nothing and building a stable life together. She managed the household, cared for their daughter Zhou Xiaoxue, and was pregnant with their second child without complaint. On their daughter’s birthday, Zhou Mingchen claimed he was rushing home to celebrate—only for news to arrive that he had ""died in a car crash, his body lost in the ravine."" Overcome with grief, Shen Qian joined her in-laws and a local mystic, Zhang Banshan, to ""search for his remains""—when suddenly, she saw floating ""subtitles"" in the air, revealing the truth: Zhou Mingchen had faked his death to abandon her and start a new life with his pregnant mistress, Wen Xiuxiu. Her in-laws had even helped him empty their bank accounts and steal her jewelry. Shen Qian quickly regained her composure. Pretending to remain clueless, she secretly reported a ""burglary"" to freeze Zhou Mingchen’s bank cards. When he tried to buy a villa in Jiangcheng with his parents and Wen Xiuxiu, he found his funds locked—unaware that Shen Qian, guided by the mysterious subtitles, had already hired a private investigator to gather evidence. Debt collectors soon arrived, demanding repayment of the 5 million yuan Zhou Mingchen had left unpaid. Shen Qian lied, claiming he owned property in Jiangcheng, and sent them to disrupt his new life. To expose the fraud, she held an elaborate funeral, insisting on ""laying her husband to rest"" and pressuring her in-laws to bring home a ""body""—actually a weighted mannequin. At the funeral, relatives grew suspicious of the ""corpse’s"" unnatural lightness. Zhang Banshan, now secretly on Shen Qian’s side, ""accidentally"" knocked over the stretcher, exposing the dummy. In the chaos, Zhou Mingchen—chased by debt collectors—burst in, revealing his ""resurrection."" Shen Qian then unveiled photos of him with Wen Xiuxiu, a recording of his fake-death plot, and Zhang Banshan’s testimony, humiliating him before the entire village. Forced to divorce quickly to marry Wen Xiuxiu, Zhou Mingchen signed an agreement granting Shen Qian 70% of their assets, including the Jiangcheng villa. But his downfall wasn’t over: he soon discovered Wen Xiuxiu’s unborn child wasn’t his—it belonged to her ex-husband, Li Cheng. Worse, the couple owed massive gambling debts. When Li Cheng came to collect, he stabbed Zhou Mingchen, leaving him permanently disabled. When Shen Qian’s in-laws learned she was still carrying their grandchild, they knelt, begging for reconciliation—but she refused. In the end, Shen Qian moved into her own home with her daughter and unborn child, starting anew. Zhou Mingchen, Wen Xiuxiu, and his parents, however, were left drowning in debt, betrayal, and the irreversible consequences of their cruelty.
