After extorting her neighbor's water pump, her rice rotted in the field

The story centers on the diverse lives of villagers in the 1990s and follows Alfred, a kind-hearted young man. One stormy night, Alfred stayed up all night pumping water to save the seedlings of his neighbors, Elin and her husband, Wang Laogen, from the devastating torrential rain and floodwater. Instead of gratitude, Alfred found himself in an unexpected predicament as Elin boldly exploited the situation to demand compensation in the form of pesticides and a water pump. Elin and her husband, placing misplaced trust in the idea of rural brotherhood, purchased a substandard water pump at a low price from a deceitful merchant. Stubbornly refusing to use Alfred's equipment out of pride and spite, they ultimately caused the downfall of their own rice paddies. In the aftermath, Elin frequently resorted to shameless antics, betrayal, and even acts of violence. Her actions escalated to the point of committing assault, which landed her in legal trouble and left her destitute and without a home. In stark contrast, Alfred faced numerous challenges but steadfastly upheld his principles of kindness and integrity. With his exceptional skills and honest character, he rallied the villagers to develop a flourishing local agricultural machinery industry. Against all odds, Alfred transformed his life, earning the deep respect and admiration of the entire village and achieving a stable and fulfilling future.
